About this event

GOOGLE MAPS & GOOGLE EARTH

PREREQUISITES: Familiar with basic computer skills

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Three 75 minute sessions - once weekly for 3 weeks.

Both of these mapping programs are now interactive websites that work with just about every computing device, but some features may not work on your own device. Classroom demonstrations will be done on a classroom desktop PC.

Explore the world from your favorite chair! Google Maps is a highly detailed dynamic interactive mapping service covering most of the world. You may choose to display in graphic format, in satellite photo form or in a combined format. The level of detail can be precise enough to count sunbathers on a beach. Precise directions between locations are available, Traffic conditions, road hazards and weather conditions are constantly updated. You can easily search, find local attractions and services and even peek inside some buildings.

Google Earth adds a new dimension to mapping services – the third dimension! The idea is simple - and a lot of fun!! It's a globe that sits inside your PC. You point and zoom to anyplace on the planet that you want to explore. Detailed satellite images and local facts zoom into view. The sensation is like taking a helicopter tour that can go anywhere you can imagine as soon as you can think of it!

COURSE MATERIALS - Bring a personal Flash or Jump drive for transporting files between the classroom and home. You may bring your own laptop, tablet or smartphone if you wish.
