Participants need:

  • A working knowledge of an Apple device i.e. an iPad, iPhone;
  • To know your Apple ID and password;
  • The email address and phone number of at least one person with an Apple device;
  • The email address and phone number of one person without an Apple device;
  • To arrive 15 minutes early to the first class to connect to the SBCC Wi-Fi network.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

FaceTime is an Apple application that can be used to make free video and audio calls over Wi-Fi between Apple devices. With the release of the software upgrade iOS 12.1 and later, up to 32 individuals may participate in a Group FaceTime audio or video call – a great improvement over the previous limit of two!  What you learn using an iPhone or iPad device in this class will lay the foundation for making FaceTime calls using a Mac.  Only these Apple devices will be used in this class, not Macs or Mac laptops.

This course will have two, 75 minute sessions.

During the first session, these topics will be covered:

  • Explore and manage the Contact application;
  • Identify Settings options that allows the FaceTime application to utilize Wi-Fi or cellular service;
  • Guided practice and instructor demonstrations on how to initiate both video and audio FaceTime calls using the FaceTime application and through Messages for two callers as well as group calls;
  • Question and answer period.

The second session will be used for:

  • Instructor review and demonstrations;
  • Guided practice making video FaceTime calls between class members over Wi-Fi;
  • Guided practice making audio FaceTime calls between class members over Wi-Fi;
  • Question and answer period.

COURSE MATERIALS

Please print and bring with you to both sessions the handout that will be emailed to you prior to the first class and a pencil.  Also, bring an Apple device of your choice, iPad, iPhone, that has the most recent iOS installed (Settings->General->Software Update).  If you need special accommodations, contact the instructor when you register for the class.
