Windows 10 Apps
Windows 10 arrives with a broad spectrum of accessory apps (formerly known as programs in ancient times) which you may or may not want to use, but should at least know what is included with Windows.
There are hundreds of Universal Apps available through the Microsoft Store, some of which are included with your original installation (Mail, Calendar, etc.). Access to these may require a valid Microsoft account. Universal apps are often modified or supplemented by subsequent feature updates by Microsoft or by your system manufacturer.
There are also multiple legacy apps carried over from prior versions of Windows (Internet Explorer, Notepad, WordPad), and there are some new apps unique to Windows 10 (Edge, Windows Defender)
We’ll spend an afternoon discussing the pros and cons of a Microsoft Account and then giving you an overview of some of the useful apps available and pointing out some of the more common hazards to avoid as well as how to remove the things you will never use.
This class will be taught using the classroom desktop PCs with Windows 10 Pro installed. You may alternatively bring your own laptop and connect to the classroom wireless network. Please bring a personal flash drive with at least 0.5GB of free space to copy the class materials for home use.
