Your Kindle Fire library tab is missing, what now?

Your Kindle Fire library tab is missing after a recent system update, what can you do?

Amazon recently updated most all Kindle Fire tablets and removed the library tab making it hard for people to find their eBooks. Not only did they do that, but some DRM free books acquired from other websites and in the AZW3 formats will no longer appear on your Kindle even though the books are physically there. AZW3 is the current default format for eBooks on the Kindle Fire. Note that the Amazon fix is to reset your Kindle (does not work) and must install your apps and however many books you lost.

So, here are the workarounds to fix this. Here are the recommendations from Amazon to find your books. This is not as simple as it was before removing the library tab. If this seems complicated, it is!

All of your Library content can now be found on the "For You" tabs (WATCH, READ, LISTEN, GAMES). Kindle Book and Audible content can be found on the READ tab.

Please make sure that you're on the "For You" page and have chosen the correct tab inside the page (at the top will be READ, WATCH, LISTEN, GAMES).

Within each "For You" tab (WATCH, READ, LISTEN, GAMES), below the library content are app Icons for the specific apps (i.e. Kindle Reader and Audible icons on the READ tab,

Each of these icons will open the associated app and each app will have a Library section within it with your full Libraries.

The Library content displayed within the "For You" page will often be just a portion of your full Library (50 books maximum). Each app displays the content which they believe will be most helpful for customers to access from the "For You" page tabs.

Each app (Kindle Reader, Audible, etc.) will have a Library section within it with your full Libraries.

Note: The above recommendations are only for eBooks you purchased from Amazon, other vendors or websites will not show up here, you must access your books differently.

Following the above instructions swipe books to the left, these are under the heading “From Kindle”, until you reach the “View All” setting, click or touch on that and it will bring up the library that you used to reach when you clicked on Kindle in the library tab. Now you will see all your books that you had before the update. If you add any books after the update in the AZW3 format from anywhere else, then they have been hidden by Amazon. The workaround to this issue is to convert them to MOBI format using a program like Calibre: https://calibre-ebook.com/ and now they open and work as you would expect. I don’t have much hope that Amazon will fix this problem.

Alternatively, you can install the Google Play store on your Kindle: https://www.androidpolice.com/install-play-store-amazon-fire-tablet/

This will allow you to install a different reader app that opens other formats including AZW3 and ePub if that eBook does not have DRM on it. The one I like is called Librera (free): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foobnix.pdf.reader&hl=en_US

After researching all this, I might have to move to the Samsung Galaxy Tab: https://www.samsung.com/us/tablets/galaxy-tab-s9/    that does not have the Amazon limitations.
