Linux Mint-Advanced Configurations
For Linux beginners and previous students
In this class we will focus on setting up the Linux Mint Operating System after installation. Your Windows 10 computer that will no longer support Security Updates from Microsoft (and that you should NOT be accessing the internet with) is a perfect machine to run Linux Mint. Bring it to class and we will install Linux Mint 22.2, if desired.
Topics covered:
Configure two web browsers for safety and security, Firefox and Brave, with ad blockers and other features. Brave is Chromium based, and a great replacement for the malware laden, ad popping, information harvesting Google Chrome browser. It prioritizes speed and security without Google’s data collection.
Short review of the Linux Cinnamon Desktop to become familiar with icons, features and basic navigation.
Backgrounds, and Themes for a beautiful Desktop.
Preferred application settings.
Easy Driver and System Updating.
Installing fun software with Software Manager.
Timeshift backup application.
The free and open source Libre Office suite for word processing, spreadsheets, etc. Libre Office will open and Save As (.docx) when configured to do so, as we will learn.
And more, as time allows.
Please bring a flash drive to class for file handouts to take home.
