Operating System Alternatives: Introduction to Linux

As millions of computers, with great hardware, will no longer support the latest operating systems from Apple and Microsoft, what will happen to these machines? Your Computer Club has an answer!

In this class we will learn the process of creating bootable media to install and configure Linux Mint “Vera” with the Cinnamon desktop onto a provided Dell Optiplex 7440 All-in-One desktop computer. This will give you the skills to do this on your personal, older laptops or desktop computers, if you so desire.

Linux Mint is a beautiful operating system, very similar to Windows 7, easy to learn and is well supported with updates and over 60,000 software programs available. And it is FREE!

Class Prerequisites:

You must know basic Windows computer navigation skills including how to use a mouse, right clicking, etc.

This class requires you to bring a USB thumb drive to class for the creation of bootable media. Preferably, this would be a new 64GB or higher High-Speed 3.0 capacity drive. All data on any drive used will be erased!

If we don’t get through all of the material there will be a follow-up class.
